My memories Sue (Crawford) Glenn

Class of 1963

Growing up in the 50’s in Geneva was good…….poodle skirts, bobby socks, hula hoops!  I had a great childhood and lots of good memories.  Every day after school we went to Reese’s for a vanilla phosphate or to Von’s Pharmacy.  The candy store was on the way.

I never liked winters …..way tooooo cold for me and too much snow!  (Guess that’s why I live where I live now) But I went ice skating and sledding (at the Memorial Field hill) because “everyone else did.”  I loved the summers though.  Because my Dad’s business was busiest in the summer and he couldn’t take vacation then, we had a house at the lake where I spent my summers from the age of four…..boating, water skiing, swimming, and hanging out with kids from the near by cottages who came from other towns and states.  Always made new friends every year.

School was good…….kindergarten with Mrs. Woodworth (?) in the basement, 3rd grade with Mrs. Smith, 5th grade at the library with Miss Schneider.  And everyone (who was lucky? enough to have his class) remembers Mr. Unger.  I always thought he was so mean – always yelling and throwing things out the window (books, rulers, etc.) when he got mad.

Of course, all the games and dances…..Blue Triangle, Rainbow Girls, and being a majorette were the highlights of Jr. High and High School.

Cooning…………..so much fun, until someone told my dad he saw me “with some other kids” swiping his cider.

And, remember Teen Town with Slim Sprague?!   Talk about memories!!

Growing up in the 50’s was the best of all times to grow up!
